Iran is prepared to resume nuclear negotiations with Washington provided that it is handled with "dignity" and "respect", Tehran's foreign minister has announced.

The Iranian diplomat said solely negotiations was effective, and disclosed recent overtures had been made by intermediaries to restart negotiations with the US government. He claimed Iran did not have unreported enrichment locations, and Tehran was not yet able to allow the global atomic watchdog to access struck enrichment centers for safety concerns.

Walking a Challenging Course

Araghchi is walking a complex path since Iran wishes not to be seen to be acting from a situation of disadvantage, and he consistently maintained that Iran had arisen more resilient militarily and mentally from the joint assault on its enrichment centers in June.

He was speaking at a security conference in Tehran where he reiterated that Iran had "an inalienable right to refine atomic fuel within its borders that it will never give up" – the primary cause of the deadlock in the previous talks.

Previous Talks Suddenly Terminated

The previous five rounds of negotiations between the United States and Iran were brought to an abrupt and acrimonious conclusion on 12 June when Israel, with American backing, attacked Tehran's atomic facilities in a fortnight-long engagement that culminated with Donald Trump claiming the facilities had been destroyed. Afterward, EU nations exercised their authority to reinstate UN-wide sanctions, but Iran asserts they have not had a substantial consequence.

Tehran representatives said they felt they had achieved a "ideal resolution" to the nuclear fuel concern in previous talks, when it was settled an domestic cooperative with US participation could refine atomic fuel. Both sides would have been able to assert triumph since home-based processing would have continued and the US could be confident that Iran's nuclear programme was solely for peaceful purposes.

It had not been decided in the discussions that Washington's technical specialists could operate within Iranian territory, but that was a natural consequence of the cooperative offer. Representatives stated repeatedly they had secured an understanding with the US representative the US official only for the arrangement to fall apart due to "detractors in America".

Present Position

Araghchi said: "It was not Iran that had fled diplomacy; it was America and the European states that had repeatedly tried to dictate their demands during the talks. Dialogue can still be active and continues the primary answer to settle conflicts, but its criteria, rules and tenets must be respected."

Recovery and Rebuilding

In what is portrayed by Tehran representatives as the struggle of repair and rebuilding, the foreign minister claimed he was assured Iran's defence capabilities "are much stronger than prior to 13 or 14 June of this year. He added: "We successfully passed this conflict. Our atomic expertise, which they intended to obliterate, remains in place. The Iranian people have developed more powerful, more integrated, and more endorsing of the government and the country in the face of this assault."
