Hurricane the storm is projected to become a rare Category 5 hurricane as it shifts toward the Caribbean island, delivering dangerous flash flooding and rock falls.

This weather system, which had wind speeds of up to 195 km/h as of 0600 Greenwich Mean Time, is presently veering toward the northwest in the Caribbean and is anticipated to make landfall by early next week, according to weather experts.

Advisories of electricity outages and disruption to utilities have been issued as the hurricane brings up to 30 inches of precipitation and sea level surges as high as thirteen feet above normal levels. "Take cover without delay," locals have been told.

This hurricane is the thirteenth storm in the ongoing Atlantic storm period, which usually concludes in late autumn.

Category Five Storm Risk

A category five storm is the strongest type, with wind speeds of at least 252 km/h.

Although this storm is expected to reduce in intensity to a category four cyclone before making landfall on the island, authorities said there was "minimal real distinction in the general consequences" upon reaching the coast, and that the storm will be "equally strong" when it impacts the country.

With tropical storm-strength gusts and precipitation already expected well before it passes over Jamaica's central region - possibly even the capital, Kingston - warnings state that "readiness efforts must be accelerated".

"An extended timeframe of destructive gusts and intense precipitation have begun and will cause severe and deadly rapid water accumulation and many rock slides," urged weather authorities.

Jamaican Prime Minister the official said: "I understand that there are numerous residents who are worried, who are extremely apprehensive, and appropriately: worry is natural.

"But the most effective method to manage nervousness and any unease and worry is to be prepared."

Locals are being told to protect their properties with protective bags and timber panels, and to accumulate necessary supplies.

Alerts are also ongoing for areas in Haiti such as the primary urban center, the neighboring country and the eastern part of Cuba, where the hurricane is expected to bring analogous consequences by the middle portion of the coming week.

Mudslides presently generated by the cyclone have resulted in two fatalities in Haiti, according to emergency services.

Expected Trajectory

Melissa is predicted to move across the island nation by midweek before moving through the Caribbean archipelago and entering the Atlantic.

By the time it arrives at Cuba, it is forecast to have weakened to a category three hurricane.
